The media distribution service Crunchyroll announced on Monday that it will stream the Chihayafuru 2 television anime series. The site will premiere the series on January 11 at 3:00p.m. EST for premium members, and for free members one week later. The series will be available for members in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
The story adapts Yuki Suetsugu's manga that follows a schoolgirl named Chihaya who competes in the Japanese card game of karuta. Chihaya enters her second year of high school in Chihayafuru 2.
The original cast and staff are returning for the second season along with additional cast members Miyu Irino and Megumi Han.
The manga already inspired a 25-episode television anime season from October 2011 to March 2012. Crunchyroll streamed the first season into several countries as it aired in Japan.
The show will premiere in Japan on January 11.
