posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Namco Bandai Games began streaming a three-minute promotional video for its .hack//The Movie+Versus Hybrid Pack bundle on Thursday. The video includes footage from the included .hack//The Movie anime film and gameplay clips from the .hack//Versus action game. PlayStation 3 users will be able to watch the film in stereoscopic 3D and play the game using the same hybrid Blu-ray Disc.
The film's story is set in 2024, when children have lived their entire lives since birth in a world connected by networks. A cheerful 14-year-old middle school girl named Sora Yūki (Summer Wars' Nanami Sakuraba) has no interest in games, but her friends get her to go into the popular network game "The World." However, due to "a certain incident" in The World, anomalies start occurring in the real world.
The bundled .hack//Versus PlayStation 3 game will star Sora as well as various main characters from .hack// series titles such as Haseo from .hack//Roots and .hack//G.U. The game will feature new character visuals and include a story mode as well as a options for online gameplay.
Both the regular and limited-edition versions of the Blu-Ray Disc Hybrid Pack will ship in Japan on June 28. The regular edition of the pack will cost 7,140 yen (about US$85), and the deluxe "The World Edition" will cost 10,500 yen (about US$125). The .hack//The Movie DVD will cost 5,250 yen (about US$65) and ship on the same day.
