SMAP Group Performs Popular Anime Theme Songs
posted on by Joseph First
The SMAP pop group performed various anime theme songs on their SMAP x SMAP variety show on Monday at 10 p.m. JST.
The performance included popular songs from the Neon Genesis Evangelion, My Neighbor Totoro, and One Piece anime. SMAP also sang "Hajimete no Chū," the fourth opening theme song from the Kiteretsu Daihyakka children's television anime series. Fuji TV collaborated with various Japanese television networks to screen clips from the anime during the variety show episode.
Anime composer Kouhei Tanaka (One Piece fims, Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, Rosario + Vampire) revealed last week that SMAP's Takuya Kimura and anime song vocalist Hiroshi Kitadani would also perform "We Are!," One Piece's first opening theme song, on the same show. Kitadani recorded "We Are!" for The One Piece television anime as well as the series' current "We Go!" opening theme.
