To Aru Hikūshi e no Tsuioku's 1st 12 Minutes Streamed

Madhouse's light novel-based aerial drama opens on October 1

The official Nico Nico Douga channel for Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko imprint began streaming the first 12 minutes from Jun Shishido and Madhouse's To Aru Hikūshi e no Tsuioku anime film on Friday.

Koroku Inumura's original To Aru Hikūshi e no Tsuioku (Flashbacks to a Certain Aerial Pilot) light novel revolves around Charles Karino, a Revaamu Empire mercenary aerial pilot who mans the twin-seater reconnaissance seaplane Santa Cruz. One day, he receives a preposterous assignment: to fly solo over 12,000 kilometers of enemy waters to protect a girl named Fana del Moral. Fana happens to be the next in line to the empire's throne.

Shishido directed The Story of Saiunkoku and Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger before tackling this project. Satoko Okudera (Summer Wars, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) wrote the new film's screenplay, and Hidenori Matsubara (Ah! My Goddess!/Sakura Wars character designer, new Evangelion films' animation director) adapted its character designs from Haruyuki Morisawa's original novel illustrations.

The TMS Entertainment-produced film will open on October 1. The Scotland Loves Anime festival will then screen the film under the English title The Princess and the Pilot in Edinburgh later that month.
