Otakon to Host Madoka Magica's U.S. Premiere, Producer
posted on by Egan Loo
The organizers of Otakon announced on Wednesday that Aniplex producer Atsuhiro Iwakami will host the American premiere of Puella Magi Madoka Magica on Friday, July 29 at the Baltimore Convention Center. Iwakami will also discuss the making of the anime at a panel after the premiere. Iwakami's other works include The Garden of Sinners, Bakemonogatari, Oreimo, Kannagi, and this fall's Fate/Zero television anime series.
With Madoka Magica, director Akiyuki Shinbo (Bakemonogatari, Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei, Hidamari Sketch, Arakawa Under the Bridge) and series script editor Gen Urobuchi (Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~, Blassreiter, Fate/Zero) of Nitroplus deconstructed and reinterpreted the magical girl genre into one of the most popular anime titles of the year. The story centers around Madoka Kaname, an eighth-grade schoolgirl who makes a fateful contract for one wish, in exchange for defending the world against witches.
Aniplex of America will release the anime on home video in North America.
