1st Live-Action Gantz Film's North American BD Listed

Warner Home Video revealed in a newsletter on Wednesday that the Blu-ray Disc for the first live-action film based on Hiroya Oku's science-fiction manga Gantz will be released in North America on August 30 and will have a suggested retail price of US$29.99. (The newsletter lists the film under the "Family & Animation" category, although it is arguably neither.) The film will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on October 3.
Directed by Shinsuke Satō, the Gantz film series is the latest version of Hiroya Oku's manga (published by Dark Horse Comics in North America). The studio Gonzo made the manga into an anime series in 2004.
The first film held its world premiere in Hollywood on January 20. In addition to the Hollywood event, Gantz was screened in over 330 theaters throughout the United States on the same day. The film then opened at #1 on the Japanese charts on January 29. It stayed at #1 for four weeks and eventually earned over US$40 million.
Gantz: Perfect Answer, the second and final film in the series, also opened at #1 on the Japanese charts on April 23.
