14 Anime Singers Record 'Imagine' to Fight World Hunger
posted on by Egan Loo
14 singers of anime theme songs formed a group called Anison All-Stars to sing John Lennon's "Imagine" song in a charity effort to fight world hunger. 100 yen (about US$1.10) from the proceeds of each download of the song will go to the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations organization that fights world hunger and poverty, particularly among children. 100 yen would pay for about three meals in WFP's school meals programmes. An estimated 1.02 billion people in the world are undernourished, and 350 million of them are children.
The song was posted on Japanese music download services on Friday, the day that WFP marked as World Food Day. (The song is currently not available in download services outside Japan.) Mami Ayukawa, Yoshifumi Ushima, Minami Kuribayashi, Hiromi Satou, the supergroup JAM Project (Hironobu Kageyama, Masaaki Endō, Hiroshi Kitadani, Masami Okui, Yoshiki Fukuyama), Hiroki Takahashi, Kaori Hikita, Faylan, Yumi Matsuzawa, and Shunji Inoue all performed on the song.
