Ponyo's Hayao Miyazaki, Katsuya Kondo Interviewed
posted on by Egan Loo
The New York Daily News newspaper has posted an interview with Studio Ghibli co-founder and Oscar-winning director Hayao Miyazaki. Unlike most of the other interviews leading up to the North American opening of Miyazaki's Ponyo film, this newspaper conducted its interview at Ghibli's Tokyo offices, where fellow Oscar-winning director John Lasseter also stopped by to visit. The San Francisco Chronicle newspaper interviewed Miyazaki during his July visit to California, as did the First Showing website.
Animation World Magazine interviewed veteran character designer and animation supervisor Katsuya Kondō, who accompanied Miyazaki on his Ponyo promotional trip to America. Kondo has been working on most of Ghibli's films since 1986's Laputa: Castle in the Sky, and he designed the characters in Kiki's Delivery Service and Ocean Waves. Outside Ghibli, he designed the characters in the Like the Clouds, Like the Wind television special and the second part of the Twilight Q video series.
Ponyo will open in North America this Friday.
