Gainax Works on Abenobashi Special, Free-Diving Work
posted on by Egan Loo
Gainax studio co-founder Hiroyuki Yamaga revealed at California's FanimeCon this past weekend that his company is working on two projects: an Abenobashi special and a new project whose title has not been announced. Yamaga directed the original Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi comedy adventure television anime series in 2002. The separate, untitled project will deal with free-diving, or diving without the aid of equipment to breathe.
Yamaga appeared at the convention with several members of his Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann staff, including the director of photography Toyonori Yamada and key animator and animation director Hirokazu Kojima. The team just finished the second theatrical film adaptation of the studio's Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann television anime series, and the film opened in Japan in April. Bandai Entertainment released the Gurren Lagann television series in North America, while ADV Films released the Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi anime series.
