My Melody TV Anime Franchise to Reportedly End
posted on by Egan Loo
The Shunsō blog reports that this week's unveiling of the Jewelpet television anime series revealed that Jewelpet will take over the Onegai My Melody Kirara anime's timeslot. This will effectively end Sanrio's My Melody television anime franchise after four consecutive series. The "My-Melo" television franchise began with Onegai My Melody in April 2005. Its popularity led to 2006's Onegai My Melody - Kuru Kuru Shuffle! and then 2007's Onegai My Melody Sukkiri. The current series, Onegai My Melody Kirara, began last April, and each of the three previous series lasted 52 episodes.
Sanrio developed both My Melody and Jewelpet, although it is collaborating with Sega Toys for Jewelpet. Rei Sakuma (Ah! My Goddess!' Peorth, Hello Kitty: Cinderella's Kitty White, Ranma ½'s Shampoo) has played the My Melody rabbit character through all four television series. In the current Kirara series, My Melody befriends a fourth-grade girl named Kirara Hoshizuki (Reina Tanaka), and the two have adventures together.
