17th Crayon Shin-chan Movie to Open in Japan in Aprll (Updated)

The official Japanese website of the publisher Futabasha has announced that the 17th Crayon Shin-chan (Shin chan) film, Eiga Crayon Shin-chan: Otakebe! Kasukabe Yasei Ōkoku (Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Roar! Kasukabe Wild Kingdom), will open in Japan on April 18. In the film, the Human Animal Transformation Project will turn the title kindergartner Shin chan and the rest of the Nohara family into animals.
Each annual Shin chan film has traditionally competed with the latest Detective Conan anime film for the #1 film at the box office during the weekend before Japan's Golden Week holidays. The 16th Crayon Shin-chan film, Crayon Shin-chan: Chō Arashi wo Yobu Kinpoko no Yūsha, opened at #2 below this year's Detective Conan film, Detective Conan: Full Score of Fear, during the April 19-20 weekend.
Update: CMX Manga has been releasing Yoshito Usui's original Crayon Shin-chan manga in English in North America. Funimation has been adapting the Shin chan television anime series into dubbed English, and the Adult Swim network is running an episodes every Sunday morning. The Crayon Shin-chan films have yet to be released in North America.
