Umizaru Coast Guard Manga, Nonchan Manga Get New Films
posted on by Gage
The official website of the Limit of Love Umizaru film is streaming two teasers for Umizaru 3, the third live-action film adaptation of Shuho Sato's Umizaru coast guard manga. (Reload the linked page to see both teasers.) The original story follows the lives of divers in the Japanese Coast Guard. Limit of Love, which is the second Umizaru film, earned 2006's highest box office take among all Japanese films except for Tales from Earthsea. The manga also spawned two television drama series, including one with the same cast as the films.
Japanese actress Manami Konishi will portray Komaki Nagai, a single mother in her 30s in Akira Ogata's live-action remake of Kiwa Irie's 1995-1998 Nonchan Noriben manga series. In the story, Nagai divorces her husband, moves with her daughter Nonchan to Tokyo, and sets up a bentō box (boxed lunch) shop. The manga already inspired a television drama series that aired in 1998. The film is slated open in Japanese theaters in 2009.
Konishi also held a role in Katsuhiro Ōtomo's 2004 Steamboy film as the voice actor of Scarlett O'Hara.
