New artbook published, PS3 game due this summer
Megazone 23, the 1985 motorcycle robot anime that popularized the original video animation (OVA) market, will mark its upcoming 23rd anniversary with the live "Megazone 23 Revive!" event. The May 13 event in Tokyo's Shinjuku LOFT/PLUS ONE hall will feature original voice actress Miina Tominaga (Megazone's Tomomi, Patlabor's Noa), mechanical designer Hideki Kakinuma (Genesis Climber Mospeada), music director Yasunori Honda (The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Monster), and other guests.
The franchise is also marking the occasion with an official website. The website highlights the Megazone 23 Manuever Book, an April 2007 art collection which includes original illustrations, production designs, and interviews. Also arriving this month is Yamato's re-release of its 1/15 transformable Garland motorcycle toy in military colors, and Atelier-Sai's non-transformable toys of the Garlands from all three Megazone 23 parts. The recent Megazone 23 Complete Box DVD set also included a promotional video for this summer's Megazone 23 PlayStation 3 adventure game by a new game studio named Compile Heart. The Megazone 23 producers had announced a new anime project in 2005, but have not provided any more details or production plans since.
