According an English article in the Daily Yomiuri (http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/newse/20020425wo62.htm), a report to the Japanese Education, Science and Technology Ministry recently by an advisory panel calls for the promotion of various new forms of art, including Anime.

According to the Yomiuri article, "The proposals, made by the Council for Cultural Affairs, are aimed at passing on cultural attributes that foster rich humanity to the next generations."

With the recent International success of Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi) in mind, the report states, "We can be proud of animation art as well as computer graphics. These forms of art are the driving force to rejuvenate the nation's arts and culture in the future," and recommends that the government establish means to support the development of animated movies.
