Kamen Joshi Idol Erina Kamiya Reveals 'Real Salary' on YouTube

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Kamen Joshi (Masked Girls) idol group member Erina Kamiya gained attention online earlier this month when she posted a joke video on her official YouTube channel claiming her monthly salary is about 20 million yen (about US$178,000). However, the end of the video revealed that the figure was "fiction." As a follow-up, Kamiya posted a video titled "'Nonfiction' I'll tell you my real salary." on Monday.

In the video, Kamiya first teases viewers by showing pieces of paper that are not her payslip. She eventually shows what she claims is her actual payslip with the entire document pixelated except for the listed net income. According to the payslip, Kamiya's net income for the month was 477,426 yen (US$4,200).

Kamiya also explained in the video that when she first moved to Tokyo from Shizuoka, she had to live on her savings because she earned less than 10,000 yen (US$89) per month. She added that she intended the new video to reassure parents of girls who want to become idols that following their dreams is viable if they put all their effort into doing what they like without giving up.

Kamiya's official YouTube channel debuted at the end of October, and her channel has grown rapidly to about 130,000 subscribers. In its first week, her channel earned more than 47,000 subscribers and more than 3.7 million views. Below is Kamiya's video that created a buzz earlier this month as she revealed a false salary.

Tomio Izumi, head of the Akihabara Tourism Promotion Association, named Kamen Joshi as official ambassadors of tourism in Akihabara earlier this month. The underground idol unit established its P.A.R.M.S. Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo in 2012. The group performed the opening theme song ""Kasoku Suru Trial" for the Cheating Craft television anime, which premiered in October 2016. Kamen Joshi member Moa Tsukino voiced Min in To Be Hero, which also premiered last October.
