Miyazaki is Agitated Over the Latest Ghibli Movie Poster
posted on by Bamboo Dong
Everyone's favorite grump is at it again, this time over a poster for Studio Ghibli's upcoming film, When Marnie Was There. According to Ghibli producer Yoshiaki Nishimura, who attended a recent press conference, studio co-founder and legendary director Hayao Miyazaki is angry after having seen the poster on the walls of the studio, saying that using a blonde girl on the poster to capture audience's attention is "outdated and unnecessary."
The movie is an adaptation of the children's book by Joan G. Robinson, directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (The Secret World of Arrietty). Yonebayashi also drew the colored sketch that appears on the poster. The movie will be released July 19.
Miyazaki has previously griped about otaku animators, iPads, and the Iraq War.
