Gliderfest Exhibition in London this Thursday
posted on by Andrew Osmond
The film magazine Little White Lies has announced the following London event:
Celebrate Hayao Miyazaki's The Wind Rises with a free workshop and exhibition at LWLies HQ.This Thursday, 17 April, LWLies is hosting Gliderfest — a free-to-attend workshop and exhibition inspired by legendary Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki's final film, The Wind Rises, in cinemas nationwide 9 May.
Studio Ghibli's latest triumph features a plane-obsessed protagonist named Jiro, and as a tribute we're inviting you to come to our 71a gallery to customise your own cut-out paper glider.
Your creations will hang at the BFI Southbank for the duration of their Studio Ghibli season — which runs throughout April and May.
And we have prizes to give away: three Studio Ghibli box sets and one entire back catalogue for Excellence in Gliders as judged by our in-house team of crack glider experts. The first 20 people to arrive will also receive a free poster of The Wind Rises, and there's complimentary popcorn to savour courtesy of Metcalfe's skinny. So come down early and help us keep spirits as high as Jiro's aeronautical dreams.
Gliderfest takes off at 6pm at 71a Leonard Street, London EC2A 4QS [near Old Street and Shoreditch High Street stations.] Register for the free event via eventbrite.
For those of you who can't make it down, we'll be providing a downloadable glider template for you to print off and customise. Send us a photo of your glider using the hashtag #gliderfest to @LWLies and we'll include them in an online gallery.
