Nicktoons Premieres Voltron Force Tonight
posted on by Daryl Bunao
The American company World Events Productions (WEP) is set to premiere the Voltron Force television series on the Nicktoons channel tonight at 8:30 p.m. EDT. The 90-minute debut will run commercial-free.
Voltron Force will be a sequel to the first series, taking place several years after the final battle between the Voltron Force and Prince Lotor. The series reintroduces the original Voltron Force team as they are joined by three new cadets. Together, they pilot robotic lions that can combine together to form Voltron.
WEP and the late Peter O'Keefe adapted the first 1984-1985 Voltron television series from two Toei Animation robot anime: King of Beasts Golion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV. The first Voltron series ran for 124 episodes (including a season of WEP-commissioned episodes) from 1984 to 1985, and an American computer-animated Voltron: The Third Dimension series ran from 1998 to 2000.
Toei Animation is not involved in producing Voltron Force. World Events Productions and Toei Animation were in a legal dispute regarding the rights to make a live-action Voltron film.
