posted on by Alex Mateo
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced on Thursday that it has promoted Guerrilla's Hermen Hulst to Head of Worldwide Studios. Hulst will manage and lead game development across Worldwide Studios' 14 studios.
The company also announced that Shūhei Yoshida will leave his position as president of Worldwide Studios and become head of a new initiative that will focus on helping independent developers. Yoshida will report directly to Jim Ryan, president and CEO of SIE. Yoshida became president of Worldwide Studios in 2008.
Hulst co-founded Guerilla Games, which developed the Horizon: Zero Dawn and Killzone games. Sony Computer Entertainment acquired Guerilla Games in 2005.
SIE revealed in October that its PlayStation 5 next-generation console will launch during the holiday season in 2020.
SIE's Mark Cerny, PlayStation 4 lead system architect and game designer, revealed in April that the new console has been in development for four years. The console will be backward-compatible with PS4 games, as it is partly based on the PS4's architecture.
SIE filed trademarks for "PS6," "PS7," "PS8," "PS9," and "PS10" on October 9. The trademarks were made public on October 28.
