Many of the characters in the show have first names that tend to be fully or partially a subset of their surnames when both names are written in Hiragana only. Examples include: Yukinoshita Yukino (ゆきのした ゆきの), Yuigahama Yui (ゆいがはま ゆい), Ebina Hina (えびな ひな), Hayama Hayato (はやま はやと), Kawasaki Saki (かわさき さき) and Shiromeguri Meguri (しろめぐり めぐり).
In Episode 2, Zaimokuza Yoshiteru is constantly babbling altered phrases from the anime "Yuusha Ou Gaogaigar" like: "Dimension Driver/Dividing Driver" and "Gungnir Hammer/Goldion Hammer". Bonus Trivia: Zaimokuza Yoshiteru's voice actor "Nobuyuki Hiyama" is also the voice actor for "Shishio Gai" the main protagonist of the anime "Yuusha Ou Gaogaigar".
In Episode 4, Hiratsuka Shizuka punches Hikigaya Hachiman in the stomach and says something about "Second Bullet..." and Hikigaya Hachiman saying about not wanting the "Last Bullet...". This is clearly a reference to the "Scryed" anime.
In episode 4, during Hikigaya's hospital flashback, he is reading a manga called Touki no Omote (or Porcelain Mask). It is a parody of a long-running manga called Glass Mask. The cover is a spoof of the first volume of Glass Mask.
In Episode 7, while Yukinoshita Yukino is staring at the loner girl and sighs, Hikigaya Hachiman comments about how "Stand Tsukai attract other Stand Tsukai..." It is clearly a reference to the anime "JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken."
