'Fandom Fund' Accelerator Launches to Support Fandom-Related Businesses
posted on by Karen Ressler
California-based event and marketing strategy firm Power Level Productions opened applications for a "fandom event and brand accelerator" titled The Fandom Fund on Monday. The fund will provide selected applicants with capital and consulting needed to launch or grow fandom-related businesses such as conventions.
The fund has an initial investment pool US$10 million. Power Level CEO Ian Tingen told ANN that the Fandom Fund is seeking fandom-related businesses of any size, including small conventions that need "help growing their great ideas" or large conventions that need "help to focus on how to optimize their offerings to fans."
"Anime cons are often started by people who love the content, and who want a way to meaningfully share that passion with a bigger audience," Tingen said. "All love is a little blind, though, and there is a steep learning curve when people realize that a convention is a complex business - one that deals with labor laws, international visas, targeted marketing campaigns, P&L statements, and a myriad of other issues."
Tingen formerly served as Entertainment Director for The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA).
Disclosure: ANN is listed as a partner on the Fandom Fund's website, but is not investing in Fandom Fund or receiving funding from Fandom Fund.
