I'm sure people are going to think this is too extreme, but in Japan anything drug related is super serious business, far more so than it is over here.

Huh. I wonder if those recent Amazon sales of Kill Me Baby had less to do with supporting her and more to do with getting the BD/DVD box in case it was taken off the market for a period of time.

Is there any reason to believe this will carry on to the NA version of the anime? Since the initial announcement while it was referring to amazon.jp the NA amazon has also been out of stock and as a massive collector/anime buyer it's been on my to buy list and would hate for it to skyrocket in price.

Wasn't there an Answerman on the subject of how scandalous drug use is in Japan and how it can have this sort of knock on effect? It's a shame really Wandering Son was a good show, it's a shame that if the physical media gets pulled too it will disappear.

EDIT: Found the Answerman:

Hmm, I would've thought the studios would keep them on briefly as people make a mad dash to see them upon learning what the fuss is about. There is no such thing as bad publicity, after all, but then again, maybe Japan is less forgiving of celebrities committing crimes than in the United States.

Lol, only in Japan. If someone has a drug problem then its their own fault. This is just ridiculous. But yea its Japan.

May be it is a sensitive issue in Japan what happened.

...however if they remove all legal ways to acquire/watch those shows, pirates will be the only winners and progress done over the past few years takes a few steps back...

This is ridiculous. Punishing her is one thing, but now they're hurting innocent people that had absolutely nothing to do with the incident. That makes no sense at all.

I remember an idol (forgot his name) was caught smoking while underage and that was literally the end of his career. So I'm not surprised about this.

That explains Agiri's general demeanor.

But geez, they take things too far, as if recreational drug usage were as severe as murder or idol dating.

Only when you get caught. Its Faux serious in that regard and its not a 'think' it simply is extreme. Go raid Bandai's Board members houses; call me with what you turn up since they'll be going away for a very very long time.

As severe a crime as drug use in Japan's society, I still think pulling a product off that is completely unrelated to it is the dumbest thing I've read this week. It's not like the VA would even get anything out of these shows if they kept on streaming anyway. Are they trying to pretend she never existed to begin with?

It is too extreme. Even if drug use is a serious taboo, unpersoning anyone in the entertainment industry caught doing them and withdrawing everything they were involved in from sale is going a bit far.

That's a myth. And one that Japanese culture hasn't bought into.
