I'm not sure what you mean by the "movie version" of Iczer-One.

Iczer-One was originally released as 3 OAVs, then rereleased as Iczer-One Special Edition. The SE has short segments of new animation linking the OAVs together.

Others may be able to give more details, because I don't remember it cut-by-cut. But my R2 DVD of Iczer-One contains both the original OAVs and the SE version, which is how I know there is a bit of additional footage in the SE.

Well, that was cleared up quick. Oh, well. Personally the OVAs are better than the movie anyway.

For those that need some clarification on this. The Iczer-I movie was nothing more than all 3 ovas run together. There WAS about a total of 45 extra minutes worth of animation added.

The original OVAs, were released a year apart of each other (86, 87, 88). The movie version titled Iczer-I: The movie or Iczer-1 the special version was all 3 OVAs strung together but in a rearranged order. The opening for the 3rd OVA was the opening for the movie. There was new animation added. These scenes which were very short in length were highly noticable due to the evolution of of each installment over it's 3 year period. The sound quality was changed but slightly. It was very poor and highly noticeable. I never knew why they did this. The original OVAs that came out flowed and the sound quality was better as well. But considering that this film was the first OVA created that paved the way for the OVA revolution they probably wanted to make more money off this title. But "movie" it isn't.

As for the "making of footage", called The Making of Iczer-1. This small 30 min release was later released as part of the special Iczer-1 complete collection box on LD and possibly on the import DVD release (which is now out of print). The entire collection consists of,

1) all 3 OVAs separately
2) the movie version (which I already explained in depth)
3) the making of Iczer-1

I would take the original ovas in their order any day over the movie version.

The reason I can confirm this info. is because I've been a long time Iczer-1 fan when the series started. Plus, I own the LD collection box.

It's good to see an old classic. Now new fans will get the chance to check it out. And old fans can enjoy a classic in great clarity. Very Happy
