Well, Behind the Scenes sounds interesting. I'll definitely keep it in mind. I think I'd need to know more about Shuriken & Pleats before I consider it, considering how much Black Bird turned me off.
I won't lie, I'm slightly disappointed to still not hear about a Yona of the Dawn announcement. Unsurprised, but still disappointed. |

Behind the Scenes' premise doesn't give much away so will need to know more. I like that it's set in a college and the protagonist sounds interesting at least.

After following Seven Seas and reading their responses to why they tend to avoid long-running series, it unfortunately makes a lot of business sense. There are a lot of series I would kill to own in English (Binbougami ga! and Chihayafuru top the list), but I'm only one fan and any company that picks up those manga has to make a commitment in years to something that could be a failure as early as the first 1-2 releases. If I ever become a billionaire, I'll totally fund manga localizations like a goddamn fiend. |

That was my first thought as well. My wallet is waiting... |

Since I very much enjoy the premise of 'Older Male Younger Female' manga, Shuriken and Pleats seems up my ally. As long as the guy knows how to control himself, it makes the manga less pedophilic and more romantic. I read a bit of the first chapter and it was all right. Now that it's coming to print, I'll be looking forward to it.

@myskaros - Oh yeah, I completely understand why it and other manga series I love aren't licensed. I feel like Yona would have a better chance than the others, but I still know how unlikely it is. It doesn't make it any less disappointing though every time announcements come and go.

I'm also disappointed that Yona wasn't licensed. Taking the business risks into consideration, there's a 99.98% certainty that Yona won't be licensed, right? That's too bad. Not that it will really stop me, though. I'm planning on buying all (okay, most) volumes if (/when) I go to Japan someday.

@willag
Matsuri Hino didn't write Black Bird. She is responsible for Vampire Knight. Her heroines tend to have a bit more backbone. In any case, with one volume out and the series set to end in less than a year this will be three volumes maximum, possibly two. |

Well, Kodansha just announced Princess Jellyfish as omnibus editions, which is a 15-volume ongoing series, so never say never. If it does well, it could open doors for other companies to do long-running series as omnibuses too. |

I reckon what @willag meant was that while Black Bird and Shuriken & Pleats share a similar genre(not author), hopes that the story and outcome of Shuriken are different from Black Bird. |

Well, technically so does Kamisama Kiss. In fact a short description (young girl becomes involved with supernatural male) would make that a lot closer to Black Bird. Execution makes a world of difference. I really don't see why something like Black Bird would put you off on a whole genre. It is hardly representative. I don't see anything in the word "serves" that equates to "magical sex slave of supernatural asshole". Given Hino's track record, it is likely there will be a supernatural element. However her heroines are not that doormatish. |

That is my fault. I saw Vampire Knight and thought Black Bird. I do not care much for either, so that is probably where my mistake came from, though I would take VK over BB.

Hmm, so Shuriken & Pleats might only be a few volumes long? May take a chance on that one.
Need to look more into Behind the Scenes AKA Urakata!!, but going onto the MAL page for Urakata!...was the wrong thing to do. Didn't notice the amount of !'s was different. |

This article reminded me that I really need to finish collecting and reading the rest of Vampire Knight. I think I stopped around volume 10 or so. It isn't a stellar series by any stretch of the imagination, but it isn't terrible either. To Amazon, I go!
I haven't read any of Hino's other series, but I'll keep an eye out for Shuriken & Pleats. I, too, like the older man/younger female pairing when it's done tastefully. |
