I know about Japan Sinks because of the 2 film adaptations (there's also a TV show made in 1975 according to Wikipedia), the 1973 film which Roger Corman adapted and added stuff for the American version.

The 2006 movie directed by Shinji Higuchi has a little Evangelion in-joke (Higuchi is the namesake of Shinji Ikari): The use of N2 bombs in the plan to save Japan.

I managed to find a copy of the English translation of the original novel at a library used book sale years ago, so the manga adaptation cropping up on Crunchyroll did catch my attention. I suppose I did wonder what sort of art style would be used for it, though; now I know.

Boy,"Japan Sinks" doesn't sound like a fun story to read. I hope that disasters like that don't come to pass here or anywhere else for that matter.

Managed to get my hands on the 2006 film after reading this post and it was really good. Solid tear-jerker.
