All righty then. I was beginning to get worried by the tardiness of the announcement (the previous volumes were announced almost three months in advance).
I assume that Onimonogatari will be out on December, Koimonogatari on February and Hanamonogatari on April. |

Hanabee is doing the exact same price point here in Australia for this series. Though, I'm not sure how good the sets are, haven't set out to buy the Second Season stuff just yet. Neko White is the only one they've released here.
Though, while I know that this series is an expensive one to get, I guess the price point hasn't really hit me as hard as it can others because I don't buy heaps of anime, and it's the only series that I do buy that is this expensive. I guess that spacing out the releases also makes the "hit" less for me too, as I can easily save up around $50 every month or so. And, it's not like I have to save $50 just for this series as I don't always run out to buy stuff as soon as it's released. |

Ever since the early days, when Japanese anime connoisseurs were pouring their collective purchasing power on the high-expensive rental vhs versions of anime with only a few episodes each tape, the high-markup marketplace that created has essentially been frozen.
Though with the recent economic stagnation and tax reforms in Japan, as well as legal streaming options having an effect, there might finally be a lucky shot to break it. Or at least for it to experience an effective thaw... |

Hasn't it been proven time and again that AoA's releases are no better than most other domestic distributors, and especially recently have often been demonstrably worse, with egregious subtitling or encoding issues? Unless you're going to suggest that ZOMG POSTCARDS!!!1! add a Benjamin or two to the overall price of a series, in which case I'll try to refrain from laughing. And has been explained to you many many times, there's a huge gap between "I just want to watch a show via streaming" and "I'm willing to pay ridiculous Japanese-esque prices"...namely, "I want to own a show on disk without needing to sell a kidney on the black market in order to finance it." |

Maybe I missed something, but could you please give examples of these issues? Other than Sword Art Online's DVDs being mislabeled (not encoding/subbing, but still an issue) and Garden of Sinners having one line duplicated in the script on the first movie, which were both remedied within 3-4 weeks at no additional cost or effort to anyone who bought in. I've never heard of AoA having any "egregious subtitling or encoding issues" - if this has anything to do with the Gurren Lagann discs, the content on those discs was not produced by AoA. Screen captures included with these examples to make it clear just how serious they are would be appreciated. |

Where, how and who has proven what you're saying? Facts please. And looking at AoA's growth one would think otherwise. I'm also interested in the "egregious subtitling or encoding issues" errors that you mention, some actual info on that would be greatly appreciated. |

AoA pricing is high. I think most of us already know this.
Talk about the show or the quality of the release, not its cost. |

If you are talking strictly about viewing order and not anime release order, this is the correct order: 1. Nekomonogatari Black 2. Bakemonogatari 3. Nisemonogatari 4. Monogatari Second Series (comprised of): 4.1 Nekomonogatari White 4.2 Kabukimonogatari 4.3 Otorimonogatari 4.4 Onimonogatari 4.5 Koimonogatari 5. Hanamonogatari |

I don't have the examples offhand, but I know for a fact that they came up in whatever the most recent AoA threadnaught was, because I distinctly remember multiple people pointing out certain DVD versions of series looking awful, or the artbox quality of AoA releases noticeably declining over time, or various subtitle issues. In fact, I'm pretty sure those responses were directly at you specifically, when you claimed that AoA's "high quality" was worth the price increase. If you absolutely need me to I'll do my best to dig them up, though this phpBB version's less-than-perfect search function might make that a bit difficult. |

Has it? "what makes these discs worth the damage is their video quality...an absolutely pristine transfer: sharp as a fresh-stropped razor, blemishless as a newborn babe's bottom. You can't even look at other companies' hi-def releases after watching one of these." animenewsnetwork.com/review/nekomonogatari-white/sub.blu-ray-tsubasa-tiger-limited-edition/.78068 "what you're really paying for is the video transfer, which is fabulous." animenewsnetwork.com/review/kabukimonogatari/sub.blu-ray-2/.78338 |

DVD versions of titles that has gotten the BD treatment have been critized , and DVD versions that has only been released as DVDs has gotten good reviews. The obvious pattern in this is that Aniplex is trying to get more people to buy BDs, and offers DVDs as a small bone to... to be honest I don't know who. I wouldn't mind if they altogether stopped making DVDs, it's an old format and since Aniplex is focusing on collectors it'd make sense to go BD-only. But if they're making money off them they're smart to continue. Haven't heard any complaints about their art boxes. They had issues with the adhesive they used for their info slip on their SAO boxes which they fixed. People who had removed the slip and had the box damaged could recieve replacements. Since then they've gone as far as to remove the standard info slip in its entirety and now use obis instead, which is a great improvement. I'm not sure which series had subtitling errors, but i'm quite sure it was one or two of their earlier releases, which isn't too surprising. I mean, they were new, errors are to be expected. Both Funimation and Sentai still regularly have these errors despite being around far longer than AoA, and that's just plain sad. Goes to show how much they care about the titles they put out. |

Yesss, so excited for this. Otori is IMO the single best arc of all of Monogatari so far. It managed to transform a character I thought was boring and pointless into one of the most interesting characters in the series and did it in a way which was fairly novel and unexpected. This arc is going to have pride of place on my Monogatari shelf.
Re: Viewing order, both answers given previously are correct though in my personal opinion it's better to watch the series in the order they aired rather than chronological order- they give a lot more context in Bakemonogatari than they do in Neko Black, because when Neko Black was released they (rightly so) assumed that most of the people watching it would already be familiar with the story of how Koyomi became special, etc etc. It's really up to personal preference though, either way is certainly doable. Edit: As for quality issues, I own quite a few AoA sets, (all of Madoka, incl. the movies, the first volume of Kill la Kill, Garden of Sinners, and all of the Monogatari released so far) and I've never found them to be anything but the highest quality. As the reviews of the past few Monogatari releases have stated, the video quality on them has been absolutely astounding. |
