For a sec, I thought Carl was quitting. It'd suck if that happened, because he's the only editor at Viz who has any standards.

Exactly. I agree. I love his editing on manga. They're "prim and proper" as one of my friends says.
I liked his work on Evangelion and hoped for him to do more! He'd better do some good stuff at Dark Horse, Ah Megami Sama, Blade of the Immortal or something.

Maybe they could start by printing Blade of the Immortal unflipped.

Well, Blade of the Immortal is not actually "flipped". It's cut and pasted, a technique which is not used often in manga production. Instead of mirroring every page, they cut out the panels and actually pastes them into the right order from the left to right format to right to left. Every panel is the exact same, just read in a different way.

That's true, but not entirely. Not all the panels could be done this way because the artwork ties them together so intricately. With some panels, the artwork has to be flipped the usual way. So you can see the dangers of this, when a character that's right-handed one panel is suddenly left-handed the other.

Well, I just hope he got a few more Excel Saga manga translations done, since he contributes so much to them.
