I've seen the TV series before and thought was alright. I'm curious how this upcoming film will go though.

At 1060 x 978 and 977kB, that picture is far too big for a news article.

Your logic is unsound. There's no reason to have a ridiculously-sized picture that takes up lots of data no matter what the anime is.

Horseback? New Zealand isn't that backwards. I get my internet by carrier pigeon, thankyouverymuch. Only costs me two shillings a month.

Eh to bad its not coming out this year anymore. I really loved Yamato 2199, it was easily my favorite anime for 2013, too bad Voyager Entertainment doesn't understand how to market their content.

I was hoping the article had more information about what the content of the movie is going to be. If it is the rumored prequel, it should be interesting. Whatever the content is, I trust the producers to make a movie worthy of the excellent 2199 series.

I hope the Japanese BD's are at least subtitled because I want to watch and own it as soon as I can. Also, I am not interested in a localized version if it has bastardized subtitles with the names used in Star Blazers.

By the way ANN, why did you rename the show page of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 to Star Blazers 2199?

The subtitles weren't bastardized. The only thing that was changed for the English release was the title.

Its not too surprising that they changed the show page title. Its pretty common for ANN to use official English titles for the encyclopedia. They've always done that.

Interesting, I loved the series. But I'm confused what they could show in a single movie. Old Yamato movies were incredibly long affairs, too long. Yamato 2199 deserves a another season, not a movie.

It also deserves to not be called by an anachronistic relic name that current fans won't recognize.

Very little information has been released about it. Reports from those who attended Yamatalk events featuring director Yutaka Izubuchi said that all he's said is that it takes place in the year 2199. This has led to speculation that it's a "lost episode" or "parallel story" type of thing. Possibly something that they didn't have time to cover in the 26 episodes of the series.

Producing another series would take a couple of years at the pace 2199 was done at (work started on 2199 way back in 2010 - the 1/500 scale model that came out that year was actually the 2199 version of the Yamato). A movie wouldn't take as long to produce and would generate revenue that could be used to fund a remake of Yamato 2/Comet Empire. Realistically, if they were to make it, I doubt we would see the first movie of a Yamato 2 remake before late 2015/early 2016. Depends on whether Voyager have already secretly greenlighted it.

That's assuming a Yamato 2 remake is even on the cards, and that it would be the next project produced. Yutaka Izubuchi has hinted in the past that a 2199 prequel OVA might be possible.

The Japanese BDs do have English subtitles.

Would have loved for this to get dubbed if Funi had been allowed to license it like they've picked up some of the other Yamato stuff that they didn't block.

Well, I'm patient man. I can wait for them work on producing another series if they get the funding. HOwever, i do wonder if maybe already being produced and we may not be ware of it. Production never having stopped. It would make more sense if they kept going after series's end, then made movie as their producing it. Hopefully, they'll succeed to secure enough funding.

I'm not too hip on having show renamed and characters renamed for sake of American audience. Japanese BRs are super expensive, but rather have pure translation than someone hacking up for sake of nostalgia.

Between their cut of merchandise sales and the success of Home Video releases in Japan so far, plus the upcoming movie, and I'm hopeful there'll be funding sufficient to move onto the next venture. Yamato 2 was extremely popular in Japan, so there will be a high demand for the second series to be remade.

If it is being produced, I'm sure they'll reveal it at the right time - possibly how they unveiled the movie being made, which was announced at the end of the final episode's TV broadcast. If they're not revealing much in the way of detail about the movie yet, they're certainly not going to mention any new TV series or other project in the meantime.

In the meantime, bring on late autumn. Being able to see the movie in Tokyo will fit in nicely with a 3-week autumn tour of Japan.

Those of us in the various Yamato communities were never thrilled at the use of the Star Blazers name to market it, as we see it as unnecessary. The upside is that for the upcoming US release, that will be the only change. All the Japanese names will remain in the subtitles, thankfully. I can live with the title being Star Blazers if it means that there won't be subtitles that say "Argo" while "Yamato" is visible on-screen all over the place.
