I just finished Tropic of the Sea and would give it a much lower grade. I was interested in the manga solely because I enjoy Satoshi Kon's movies. But I found the manga's art uninteresting, the story too choppy, and the conflicts rather bland.

I never picked up the Wolverine manga, but if I did, I would have placed it right next to the one volume of the X Men Misfits manga that I bought.

I think I'm one of only three people who actually owns a copy of Wolverine: Prodigal Son. It wasn't anything special, but I would have liked to see it continue.

AnimeMaine: In the defense of Tropic of the Sea, Kon was still young and just starting out as a writer and artist. So you have to view it in that context.

See I agree that it wasn't amazing but for different reasons.
I found the artwork and pacing to be great and felt like the story was well put together.
However, it was just bland and uninspired. I feel like I've see the exact same story several times was my problem with it.
So really well done but nothing too original.

I have that one X-Men series that was published at the same time and kind of feel the same way about it. Not to mention that it filled the empty high school AU void left by X-Men: Evolution.
