If this keeps up then I may have to just leave his games off my list. Seems they are going down hill plotwise but strengths lie in the visual artistry.

Seems about right. The game is kind of bad outside of the decent combat and looks.

So far no reviewers I've read have taken well to this game.

This game really does look great from the gameplay videos I have seen, and I freaking love Suda51, but... Damn, he needs to get back on his game. I really wish the narrative were better told.

...every time Mondo flicks his hair back and says "The job… Killer is Dead," even though we don't really know what that means (maybe nobody does).

Ah, no. We really don't know what it was intended to mean. I feel like I know exactly what it does mean though: [The studio that brought us] Killer [7] is Dead. And the likes of Killer 7 will never ever be replicated by the strange, fetid zombie it has since become. So we should really all just stop being disappointed when said zombie barfs up another increasingly disappointing iteration in the "I forgot how to satire" genre.

Maybe it needs to be reviewed by its fans. Wink

I'm watching Matt and Pat (Two Best Friends Let's Play) play it and they're having a blast with it so far. Since they're Suda fans I'm trusting their opinion on this one (especially since they've frequently had better opinions on certain games than most reviewers, like most reviewers liking Heavy Rain and Matt and Pat showing how insanely flawed it is).

What's with you gamers these days? Once you only cared if the gameplay was solid, but now you want the story to be good too? It even effects your final verdict on whether a game is good or not? Video Games aren't books or tv shows or movies, they're NOT meant to be story driven, so why do you care so much?

It's pretty simple. Not all games are some score attack thing. Games in general are more than Pac Man today and can feature a decent story

So when a game attempts at having a story to the point of it being a major element, what? Are you not supposed to critique it. Just ignore its story even though the developers put quailty time and/or effort into it?

Are you just supposed to ignore the story from a developer known for thier naratives? I mean that's kind of half the apeal of Suda/Grass's games.

Actually it's the opposite for me. I'm tired of games that try hard to be movies in order to appeal to everybody. Resident Evil 4 was awesome for balancing seriousness and humor (Leon's dialogue was awesome, he felt like Dante from Devil May Cry 1/3/4). Resident Evil 5 blew it by bringing up politics. Resident Evil 6 was the Valvrave of video games due to how overthetop it was.

When I played God Hand, it felt awesome because it was obvious Capcom didn't want to make a long and deep story (the intro is just "Look, some guys. Beat them up"). As long as the gameplay is outstanding I will not nitpick a story.

What the hell is wrong with God of War? How can you put that in the same category as lame dating sims?

Also I really hope the dating element is subersive as well.

Probably because I need something to keep me engaged beyond just gameplay when a game goes on for hours and hours asking me to perform the same set of tasks over and over. When you get down to it, all games are repetitive by nature, so having some sort of interesting narrative helps keep things from feeling quite so repetitive. And the fact that most games have some sort of story behind them, regardless of how thin they may be, and have been that way for decades, flies in the face of your assertion that they are not meant to be story driven.

of all the killer is dead reviews I have read this is the one that focusess the less on the gigolo missions, thanks. and it even looks like they did not even impact the game score, which is good because that's like a street fighter review marking the game down because the break the car bonus stage is too violent or something.
