Quote: | "Alan Bell, director of the anti-child pornography group ECPAT Child Alert, said the images violate New Zealand law because they encourage people "to migrate from there to the real thing."" |
Quote: | "Clark's lawyer described the anime as depictions of "pixies and trolls" that were unlike humans." |
God help us when people actually start sexually assaulting these pixies and trolls! Oh wait...I guess someone in that court room had serious problems being unable to separate fiction from reality and it wasn't Clark.
Quote: | but noted that no child was harmed in the production of these images. |
Quote: | Clark criticized New Zealand law because he claims it could, in theory, lead to convictions such as possessing explicit images of stick figures. |
Better not take my notebooks to New Zealand then.

I'm honestly having trouble processing the sheer amount of stupidity that has gone on with this case. I mean, three months in jail for porn? Y'know, porn? That thing people like? Sorry if I'm not talking very well, but levels of stupidity this high often take several days for me to process.

New Zealand's government = statists.
It's not like the guy had actual CP! These are just CARTOONS!
Why must their government violate the right to freedom of speech?

Probably because New Zealand has no right to freedom of speech...?

This reminds me of that opposition figure I read about a few months ago that was arrested, not for what he actually said at a rally, but for what they thought he WOULD have said.
So now people are being arrested, not for what they do, but for what they could theoretically do?
Sounds a lot like the background check legislation being voted down in the US for the types of legislation it could lead to being proposed not even passed lol...

And yet on several different freedom indices, NZ is higher than the US.
New Zealand has freedom of speech, just with different limitations (which pretty much every country has)

I'm more interested in how he was caught.
Did he download through torrents or P2P? If so, then he's easy pickings by the authorities because your IP address is clear to them as a giant billboard.
Direct download (ftp) is a step above safer compared to P2P/torrents.

This is the place where they made it illegal to have porn of adults who have A Cups. Does this surprise anyone?

People should not be sent to jail unless they are a threat to society or some of its members.
Is a man with hentai anime a threat to society ?
No.
Dumb move by this court.

The man also has prior convictions related to assault on a teenager. That is proably why he was jailed here in the first place.

Eh, it says he assaulted a teen boy. I'd consider him a threat to society.
