Dude, the line, "Pierce their heart with burning love!" is not meant to be taken literally.

LOL. I thought it would end with Kevin losing big time and then claiming that Shounen shows are not realistic. But it turns out they are too realistic and shouldn't be followed, otherwise somebody could get shanked (if not the poor fencing dude then Kevin when he winds up in prison).

And that's why I did saber fencing instead of Foil or Épée. At the time, I think I had the same mentality as Kevin though... except I turned out to be one of the "minor characters" in the club.

The button at the end of the foil or epee would prevent actual skewering unless the blade breaks. I don't know how often that happens. Of couse, with SHONEN POWER, anything can happen.

I think Kevin should have picked a different hobby, like swimming. There's less risk of stabbing someone accidentally when you're swimming. There are some places where Shonen Power could work. Fencing doesn't seem to have been one of them.

I am 6' 2" 190, and when I was taking fencing I kept getting paired up with girls who seemed to be 100 pounds 5' 2"... Needless to say the result where interesting

One time when I was fencing with the smallest woman in the class, after I parried her thrust, she retreated, and while doing so I went to hit her blade to clear the way so I could finish her off.

So I hit her blade down and away, and continue into a thrust, but instead of just her blade being pushed out of the way she looses balance and falls down and I nearly thrust my damn sword into her face mask. I tried to avoid her face but I end up thrusting into her right breast... God I looked like a jerk or a perv I am not sure which standing over her with my sword in her breast...

I have never apologized so much in my life... The teacher then came over, who had said "Don't hold back against women, we are all equals etc tect" and he started to go on about how I shouldn't be so agressive... Never again...

Wrong body part, he skewered his heart. Though I guess that since Kevin is free, he missed all the important organs and arteries.

But.. getting stabbed in the boob seems par for the course in fencing. That's why there's chest protectors. Weird.

He seemed focus more on the fact that she got nocked down... even if I didn't do anything out of bounds.

I just felt bad because not only did I knock her down but the whole thing looked god awful awkward for a few seconds afterwards...

Wrong. Try Germany.

However, in academic fencing, they typically aim for the face instead of the torso, and their protective equipment (at least in the modern day) is heavier than what an Olympic fencer would be accustomed to. At least you can get a badass scar at the end of it, like so:

Now there's a good idea for a shounen anime.
