Mamoru Oshii? Confused

That's it. I'm out.

When's Kenji Kamiyama's new movie coming out? Tell me more about that instead.

Wasn't "Assault Girls" also in English? I haven't seen it yet, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Having seen most of Oshii's live action movies, someone needs to set him down and force him to sign a contract that forbids him from making any live action films. Just stick to anime, Oshii. Please.

Really? He did a great job with Avalon. The others? Hmmm... I've been underwhelmed with the ones that I've seen, but I still haven't seen many of them.

Mostly. There is a reason for it but saying what it is would be a spoiler.

Assault Girls is fun, I think Oshii had a great time putting it together.

Which live-action movies did you guys not like and/or which have you seen? Oshii did:

-The Red Spectacles
-StrayDog: Kerberos Panzer Cops
-Talking Head
-Avalon
-Tachiguishi-Retsuden
-Assault Girls

Are the only ones I can think of. Though I agree I prefer his anime directorial output so far, which is:

-Urusei Yatsura: Only You
-Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer
-Dallos
-Twilight Q
-Angel's Egg
-Patlabor: The Movie
-Patlabor 2: The Movie
-Ghost in the Shell
-Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
-The Sky Crawlers

I have no idea why some people are so against Mamoru Oshii doing a live-action English-language film. Granted,I've never seen any of his live-action work but that doesn't mean that it might not be good. Give it a try. You might like it. I certainly don't have any trouble with it.

For me, it's not so much a problem with doing a live-action movie as it is him doing ANY movie. More than anything, I find Oshii to be an extremely over-rated director and his films to be preachy, pretentious, and worst of all, HORRIBLY BORING.

I can respect the first GitS movie even though I don't personally care for it myself, but Innocence was a two-hour long borefest that aside from a handful of fairly cool scenes was little more than Batou moping around being emo. I watched that movie at 2x speed, and it was STILL too slow.

And don't EVEN get me started on that piece of shit The Sky Crawlers. Mad

Thanks for sharing your opinion of a director you obviously don't care for in a thread about his upcoming movie...twice. Now go away.

This is actually interesting news that Mamoru Oshii is directing an "English" language live action film. While I haven't seen any of his earlier live action works I am interested on what this one will be like.

Though I am a huge fan of all of his anime projects that I've seen so far. I was just watching Patlabor the first movie the other day, and it gets better every time I watch it. Course I could say the same for most of his other titles as well.
