I wonder if Crunchyroll's article on the place would've gotten so many stupid comments if they'd used that picture instead of the one with the almost-certainly worst-looking waitress in the place.

OH MY dear Friggin' Haruhi on a cosmic cracker!! What Madness was that?? Dear Lord WHHHYYY must American's RUIN EVERYTHING About Anime culture!!

I can see the meme's on 2 & 4Chan now! - "Maid Cafe in....Detroit??" = YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!!

Just because I can get naked - doesn't mean I can be "Magic Mike". If you're not even going to duplicate the standards of the Japanese Maid Cafe's DON'T EVEN TRY!!!!

This story is soooo disturbing I must share it with the TRUE Otaku's of the Japanese way (SankakuComplex, 2chan. 4chan, basically everywhere MOE' thrives). So full of "WTF?" - Political Correctness & Maid Cafe's can not exist in the same Space!! (and I'm not talking about the Dude - women deserve a Butler) SOOOO SOOO Friggin' WRONG!!!

I love how you're ALREADY defending yourself against attacks. It's like you know that what you just said was ridiculous and therefore you pre-emptively defend yourself.

I had to read the headline twice, because I thought that this was for a Detroit Metal City maid cafe, not a maid cafe in Detroit. I sure as Hell didn't expect it. That's pretty neat and Detroit needs as many nice things as they can get.

This kind of nonsense pisses me off to no end. It's complete nonsense. Being open-minded and accepting in no way obligates us to refrain from criticizing you. At best, it means that you should evaluate your opinions first, although that's kind of fruitful because so far they've been uniformly awful. You hardly live up to your self-serving ideal yourself.

As for free speech, your invocation of it is completely irrelevant here. Criticism of you isn't an attack on civil liberties and free speech. That doesn't make any sense. It's the same damned thing: the expression of an opinion. If anything, you're the one asking for restrictions on freedom of speech by wanting your potential detractors to be silent. You maybe entitled to say that awful, stupid things that you do, but the reverse of that shiny coin is that I am wholly entitled to say that your are a despicable fool and a petty disgrace to humanity who makes me ashamed to be a man. I hope that some day something happens to you that shocks you into realizing what you are and how wrong that is. Until then, people are going to keep saying in sundry ways more or less what I have.

This bizarre notion of criticism as somehow an attack on freedom of speech is unspeakably ridiculous and anybody peddling it deserves the rhetorical equivalent of a brick in the face every time.

RogerSterling, which part of your post was in English?

Also, I never understood the attraction to maid cafes. Frankly, if maids turn you on, you're probably better off not going somewhere where you're going to get public erections.

Then again, if that picture is any indication... the less said the better.

I think it's interesting especially since I live in Detroit lol.
I'm just gonna say what I said on Crunchyroll
Japan - Maid Cafe's
America - Hooters
Anime hyper
Still this is interesting to see and if me and my friends are ever bored we might go take a peek for funs sake.

I heard about this a while ago and I'm surprised that no one has touched on it yet, but if you look through the profiles there is some crazy stuff. Like how one of their first anime was the "Yuyu Hockasho".

Also that aside, if these girls and guy want to make a Maid Cafe more power to them. Turning what your passionate about into a business is good and if they enjoy what I hope they can keep doing it.

Naw, I'm pretty sure it still would have, because there's still no Asians on that picture, according to Crunchyroll Maid Cafes are for Asian women only.

You think? It's so hard to tell what's going to offend someone these days. I simply write my opinion, then pretend I'm a Liberal and use EVERY Excuse & Victim Consciousness argument (to appeal to those Heart-Tuggers) I've seen 'others' use to insulate myself from any blame, shame, or remorse. Don't Oppress Me Bro! (lol) I have an Opinion. On ANN.com EVERYONE gets a trophy, No one keeps score and we don't judge others OKAY?

Who are anyone of us to "Judge" - Opinions are Free! Free like Birds - whether in the sky or the friar at Chick-Fil-A We are all Equals . Love of others is the Answer - and I love Moe.

Namaste!

The picture for this article makes me never wanna visit this place.......ever. Although, I still might give it a shot if I'm ever in Detroit. These Ladies better be able to at least make decent anime discussion.

Looking at the concept and the pictures (both here and at crunchy) I didn't understand the allure of the whole idea. Glad to see, reading these comments, that I'm not alone in that. TBH that picture kinda scares me, that "maid" on the left looks like she's ready to act out a horror movie with what looks to be a creepy surgical mask on. Either that, or she's sick and taking a note from Asian culture (and doin' it wrong). Both sound bad. I'm not sure which is worse.

Who was convinced that this was a good idea? Next question is: why are they all wearing pink? I've never had a maid, probably never will, but anime and tv have taught me that they're supposed to be clad in black...and I realize that I might have just set myself up for an obvious bad-taste joke. Oh well.... Wink

CrunchyRoll's Article wrote:
Describing the concept of moe to the the Detroit News, Samet likens it to "when you hold a baby or you pet a puppy or a kitten."
Well, that is hilarious...hilariously wrong. I'm not sure that people get aroused by holding a baby or find petting a kitten extremely erotic (if they do, I must have missed that Memo to Men), but they certainly find moe girls erotic. Creepy comparison fail.

CrunchRoll's Article wrote:
"When you come you're supposed to get that feeling of happiness and warmness. So that's why the girls wear the costumes,"
Okay, that's just too wrong. But also too damn funny...okay, I'm rofling Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing

Awww, this is kinda cute, and it looks fun and quaint. If I was near anything like this, I would try it out once or twice.

Props to the staff too. Whether it be courage, pride, or just needing money, they're doing something that's just a bit different from the norm.

Daaannng, you guys are harsh.

I don't see anything about the photo that shows anything unpleasant. What is it exactly? I'm just curious to know.

As far as reviews go, I've discovered some "fake" reviews regarding the cafe, so I don't really know which one is authentic, or which ones are looking to just bash the cafe.

Yes, it's in Detroit, but the girls are happy and are making the best out of...Detroit.
