This is fantastic news. I own a volume of the first printing, and was worried that I couldn't recommend it to people because of the pricing. However, I'm glad that more people will be exposed to this fantastic Tezuka work; it's one of my favorites by far.

Kind of surprised that this didn't pop up sooner on ANN.
But does this mean that only the people who had donated on Kickstarter will be able to get the manga, or will it have a re-print that's also going to be available on other sites or in stores?

I guess you can read that heading any way you want. Good to hear that 'Swallowing the Earth' is going to be reprinted. I often enjoyed this title even with all of it's flaws from reviewers. It's funny when this title was out it seemed to have a very low run of copies. The book had an inconsistent release date, then it was out of stock as if out print. Afterwards you just couldn't find it anywhere. Good to see a comeback.

Publishers should do this more often, so we can get OOP titles like Maison Ikkoku back in stock.

Good thing I completed mine a long time ago.
So, people donated about $50 on average.
They should do this with new titles. That way, the company never loses money - if there's not enough people donating to be profitable, they don't have to print it. They only print when they know they already made a profit.

I'm confused, are these reprints going to show up on store shelves?

Eventually, though it will take a while to solicit it to retailers again. The goal of the Kickstarter is to bring the book back and keep it in stock and available for as long as possible.
