That's pretty cool. I'd check that out if I were in Tokyo.

In addition to all of the independently developed programs, Microsoft has announced that it will "eventually" support Kinect for the PC. From the mouth of Steve Ballmer himself.

Yes the official SDK is coming:

although people have already been using the open-source, reverse engineered drivers for home brewed PC apps (like Miku Miku Dance)

actually that's not accurate. MS has a say in certifying commercial xbox 360 games, but not definitely not PC.

I don't know the figures, the Japanese xbox market seems pretty different with games like IdolMaster, Gal Gun

Yeah, the 360 is considered just for hardcore gamers in Japan, though a few 360 games get standout sales, like the recent Marvel vs Capcom 3. But Kinect may change things, if not for the 360, maybe for the next gen. It already lapped the PS3 Move (worldwide 10 million sales vs 3 million).

From the above article:

"So we probably won't see official sex games released on the Xbox 360, but that doesn't appear to mean that a PC game can't be released with Kinect compatibility. However, there may be some legal issues with that as well, and Microsoft is likely to use everything at its disposal to make sure Kinect isn't associated with touching private parts. Even if ThriXXX is within its rights to allow hands-free pr0n control through Kinect, Microsoft probably has a much stronger legal team and more funds at its disposal."

MS may not give up without a fight.

That is somewhat true, but most of the hardcore game and western game that sell well in Japan is on the PS3. I recalled that COD: Black Ops which sold well in Japan is the PS3 version. The 360 made the chart but the number of 360 version sold is much different from the PS3 version. Fallout New Vegas even sold a little better on the PS3 then the 360 version in Japan. I was surprised to find out Mass Effect 2 didn't sell well in Japan (360 version) as the first one did in Japan. Since Mass Effect 2 just came out on the PS3, I do think it's likely the PS3 version (if it ever get a Japanese release), it could outsell the 360 version and probably make the top 10 Japanese sales.

Well, I didn't say that hardcore gamers don't play the PS3 as well. Just that the 360's perception in Japan is it's for hardcore gamers, though the Kinect may help change that.

It's only a matter of time before devices similar to Kinect become universal remote controls for everything in the house.

It reads voice commands, motion commands, it even recognizes new and familiar people. People will just be able to wake up in the morning and say "Open Windows, TV on, TV channel XX, Preheat stove..."

Not only that, but things will automatically turn on/off when you enter/exit a room (unless otherwise programmed).

These things are already happening with all these modders doing their things.

Accidentally places hand on stove: "F*ck me! -- Oh wait!!"
