The Kinokuniya and Sanseido presidents are probably grinning menacingly at this news.

Well that certainly sucks. I bought artbooks from them at every con I went to. Granted I'd only get 1-2 each con as many are expensive but they were, I felt, the best source with widest variety at the cons I went to. One being Otakon which is the 2nd largest con in America for anime. In fact I can't think of any other vendor who sold much in the way of artbooks besides Sasuga at the con. Bummer.

M-My source of Japanese books... Sad
I feel like that scene in Harry Potter where they go to Diagon Alley and Ollivander's is closed...

I would doubt that. Kinokuniya just closed their NY Palisades Mall store at the beginning of the month and had a massive firesale (especially of US manga). The NJ Sanseido store has always had a very limited selection of manga and is aimed at the Japanese buyer. Sasuga had always been very english user aimed.

This is very upsetting. Sasuga and Fujisan have been my main two sources for Japanese books, manga, and magazines and now one is gone. The people there were always very helpful. It's weird to me that the period where it seemed like you could get entertainment from Japan easily (books, movies, music, games, etc) blossomed with the explosion of the internet in early 2000s and is waning so quickly, but I guess it's to be expected with the economy as it is...

Sasuga helped me finish my Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon set, so I'm really saddened by this news. I hope that another store like them comes up, though it may be difficult in this economy. Support the stores you love, so they can stick around.

This is a pretty big downer.
They actually sent me a warning message about it when I asked about them ordering a copy of Jojo A-Go Go from backstock for me. Originally they were just canceling their spot at Conneticon but about a day before it they shut down their site. They were still there, but everything was massively discounted. I got the entire Utena manga series for about $12 and an artbook by Usamaru Furuya for $17.

Sad to hear, I bought my first Japanese language manga from them years ago.

Sad to hear them going. And I'd been thinking of becoming a bookseller myself. Nowadays, though, I just don't know...

Aaaa! The bad news just keeps on coming. There goes my subscription to Ribon. Oh, well. I'm glad I finished out several manga series through them recently. R.I.P.

This isn't good news. Another one of my Japanese Bookstores, Taiga Bookstore, is closing down for good as well. I always bought something from each store at every con. Shows how sucky the economy is right now.

This is sad news indeed. Sasuga Japanese Bookstore is one of my first bookstores to ever buy Japanese manga from, and it's sad that it's closing.

How sad! I enjoyed being able to buy Detective Conan manga and artbooks from them.
