Here's an idea Hollywood. Make something new, stop remaking EVERYTHING.

Remakes are selling so much. Just look at Transformers and Avatar (Dances with Wolves)

They're scraping the bottom of the barrel for anything with a remote chance of making money for the box office. It's not surprising they're after Voltron and Macross since they are "retro" and nostalgic. Hopefully any future hollywood anime remakes flop like DB Evolution did and these faggots just give up.

Huh? Hollywood has been making remakes (and ripoffs and relaunches and reboots) since before you were born, why would they suddenly stop just because you have just realized it? What is next, asking for wars to be declared illegal because *gasp* people die in it?

People who grew up in the 80's are now in charge of movie productions - that's why you're seeing a lot of remakes of 80's favorites.

In other news, Japan is doing yet another vampire moe anime. Talk about scraping the bottom of a barrel....

Yes! No Robotech movie by Harmony Gold? Thank you!

I hope they fight this till the very end and maybe make a live-action Macross...a good one. It could work. Why not? I'm more upset at the outright copyright infringement this franchise presents. I hope a Robotech movie is never made; definitely not by Hollywood.

I don't know the whole story behind Harmony Gold and their connection with the creators of Macross but I never liked the fact that Harmony Gold had so much control over the Macross footage.

This is not a remake, this is an adaptation. If adaptations are considered remakes now, then that means even The Godfather is a remake. Confused

I certainly hope the Robotech movie won't be based on Macross, because it wouldn't credit its original creators. Fortunately Harmony Gold doesn't have any Macross related rights in Japan and I'm pretty sure Warner Bros. doesn't want to ignore the Japanese market.

The only problem is, most people aren't interested in a Robotech movie if it doesn't have any familiar characters or isn't Macross. A few years ago, they had a teaser trailer for Robotech 3000. However, due to fans not liking it, the project was scrapped.

Robotech is pretty much a dead franchise with only a handful of fans that actually care. Harmony Gold, of course, wants people to believe otherwise. It's pretty interesting to see how many people have been banned from the Robotech.com forums for questioning Harmony Gold's handling of the Robotech franchise. Plus, heaven forbid if someone mentions the fact that Harmony Gold can't legally use any of the Macross designs for any new projects, due to the court ruling in Japan over who actually owns the rights.

I highly doubt we'll ever see the Robotech live action movie. If we do, it'll probably be a box office flop, as people will probably think that it's just trying to cash in on Transformers' popularity.

Lines that must be shouted in a Voltron movie:
"It's a Robeast!"
"And I'll form... the head!"
"Form blazing sword!"
"Go Lion!"

The rest just writes itself, right? Smile

Well, that's encouraging to hear. If Harmony Gold goes under maybe we can get the other Macross anime licensed in R1.

There's much more to it than just that. For one, the rights to the other Macross properties are held by several different owners in Japan, all of whom think they have properties worth a lot of money.

So much money that nobody will ever license them because nobody can make a profit on it.

Even if HG was out of the way, that alone would continue to keep the Macross follow-ons bottled up.

If HG folded, at least some of their rights would be snapped up by other companies looking to make money off the scraps. Some rights might lapse but others would just get sold off.

Nothing wrong with that. It's just business.

Not quite true. After all, Macross II and Macross Plus did get released in America, and Macross VF-X 2 was about to ship, before Harmony Gold raised its dormant head in 1999 to block further Macross properties. At least Macross Plus made a decent amount of money in America.

I'm not into the idea of anime being adapted into a Hollywood movie, but I gotta say that Voltron could, could, (not saying will) work. Voltron is pure sci-fi, it's similiar to other sci-fi stuff, but has a more retro feel to it. It would be a little like Star Trek and Transformers. But then again, animation to live-action never works, so...
