This is great news. I just love the hughes brothers directing style and if you have seen the book of eli which was aawesome then you know that they can bring the right atmosphere to the akira movie. If warner brothers does end up going with the hughes brothers than i think it has a great chance of being good and being done right.

BTW, I love that double-talk. "Real priority", but "not before the summer".

Thank you for sharing that video.
Add: Almost as good as Saturday Morning Watchmen; I had forgotten how hilarious that was. |

Positive: Hughes Brothers + Leo DiCapprio being attached
Negative: Iron Man writer being attached Maybe that writer has crazy variety in his abilities but nothing about Iron Man makes me think he could do Akira. Not to say that he sucks, but I just don't his style meshing that well. |

The same writer wrote the screenplay for Children of Men, one of the finest post-apocalyptic sci-fi films out there. There's no need to worry about that at all. |

If by 'finest' you mean 'patently ridiculous', then I agree wholeheartedly. Otherwise....yeah, I'd be worried. |

They're doing two movies? That's pretty cool. This is shaping up to be a pretty interesting project.

Children of Men was really thought provoking, but I wouldn't say that there is no reason to worry. There are so many things that can go wrong between now and when the movie is finally released, assuming it even makes it that far. That being said, I'm actually really curious to see how this turns out. It's got a lot to live up to in my view, as the animated Akira movie is one of my all-time favorites. |

I've never read the manga for Akira. But I have a feeling this actually could turn out very well, given the fact that their adapting the manga into two movies. It probably would turn out better than the animated feature (though, Im not getting my hopes up for it).

for those of you who've read that manga like myself, you'll realize the incredible amount of detail involved. if this movie is faithful, it won't be cheap to make whether it's in manhattan or tokyo.
