Don't also forget how ecchi was one of the main personalities of the former series (and iirc somewhat in trigger Movies/OVAs too), and how it almost does not exist in this one.
The attitude they went with both anime and VN was Guns and Ecchi, suddenly drop it this late in game just feel as weird as the entire TV trigger adaptation.

ill take this over the disaster that was ubel blatt any day of the week.
was it great. not really.
but it is decent enough more or less did what it was meant to dp and that was to promote its game which just got recently released on steam as well as on the nintendo switch in japan!
besides, if its a choice between haruto or yuuji kazama, ill take the former over the latter!
at least haruto still have emotions and is likable over yuuji who tends to be an even bigger asshole than that ayanokouji guy from classroom of the elite!

This was the only series from Winter '25 that I dropped. Earlier iterations of Grisaia made an effort for one to get invested into the characters, but with Phantom Trigger, there was no build-up, they just dumped a lot of characters and action on us at once and asked us to invest in them.

The visual novels are absolutely God Tier and some of the best writing I've ever experienced in my life. I can't judge the anime because I haven't watched it. Couldn't find the first parts of Phantom Trigger to stream anywhere.

thats mainly cause the original series got its true ending once kazama and his harem of girls got their happy route in the previous game!
in addition, this anime is extremely loose towards the storyline of the original front wing VN game!
so i can get why you would drop it.
luckily i played it and it kinda buffered me somewhat.
and yea, while this anime adaptation will definitely ailenate a lot of old school fans of the eroge games, it should help the newcomers who played the steam/nintendo switch safe for work versions for it was the primary goal for this series. an ad promo to get anime only viewers to play its VN!
hopefully, its upcoming sequel will fare better
