This story is fantasy and only has to make sense within the confines of the world that the mangaka builds, and I think she builds it rather well. I've found that the series is a bit like Fruits Basket though in that the humor, while never gone, soon gives way to a much darker story, one that does explain why it's titled as it is.
I'd recommend this to fantasy lovers who like a mix of angst and humor, enjoy fantastical worlds, don't mind mild m/m interactions, and don't mind a Tohru-like hero (one who saves everyone from themselves.) There's a great sense of family in this series that makes it warm and fuzzy too. |

I saw this in the store awhile back and considered getting it, but did not do so. This review, however, has sold me on it. I'm definitely going to be picking this up in the future!

I spent a long time pleading with Tokyopop to license SD. Now that we finally have it here in the States, I'm glad word of this great series is getting around.
"Fun" really is the best single word I know to describe SD. |

I always look forward to a new volume of SD. The plot moves a little slowly but there's so much character interaction and world building going on that I don't really notice. I adore Koh, and Chigusa's cluelessness when it comes to Rakan is always amusing. I love this series!

Sounds fantastic! Something for me to pick up the next time TRSI has a sale or I get a coupon from BN.

Well finally a story where a snake gets some respect
But a Pac Man turned snake is how you'd describe Koh? Yeesh |

Aaah I've been such a big fan of Sugiura's ever since I read Koori no Mamono no Monogatari, and it's such a treat to see her work licensed here in the States. I really like her art, honestly, as well as her characters. Definitely a big fan, and I was absolutely thrilled that the translation got such good treatment.

I love this series! Definitely funny, but sweet and serious too. I just happened to buy this manga pretty much at random at a bookstore and now I can't wait for vol 5.
My favorite part is when Koh tries to give Chigusa love advice without knowing what is going on. And don't forget "sexual harassment". |

I really enjoy this title so far, however I must say occasionally cliche' doesn't even come close to giving full cliche credit to this title....

....so, um, impossible to find much? ;____; It seems like other than volume 4, it's all out of print already. I can't find volume 3 anywhere in the *state.*

For the record, Rakan is a "sanome" not "soname".

Amazon and Right Stuf are there for you. Those links go right to the search results for the series, btw. Enjoy! |

So is this series simply BL, or does it have pornographic elements? Because it sounds like fun, I'm just not into graphic stuff.
