Haha, he gets "Sailor Moon" and "Pokemon" right, but messes up "Akira" and "Princess Mononoke" . No wonder he was a jeopardy champion.

I squealed when I saw this, even though when I watched it it was at 11:00 at night (yay for DVR!). I got two of them (Pokemon, and then I practically yelled out Princess Mononoke), missed one (which I can't even remember what it was), and came close on two of them (Akira and Sailor Moon; I knew them but couldn't get them out ).

I can just imagine my mom screaming at the television. Actually I guess I would have done the same. Scary

Ah, I missed that episode. That guy won again tonight. Of course, there won't be another anime category for several years. They do have video game categories on occasion though. I can usually run those.

Cool! I would've gotten every single answer.
I question the phrasing of the Sailor Moon question. I wouldn't say she was "given powers to protect the world", maybe "given back"

I would hope that they will try the anime category thing again another time. Maybe on a teen tournament or something; I think it would be perfect for that.

He came pretty close on "Akiro" though. Really, Akira Kurosawa's name should be covered under a good contestant's general (read: non-anime-fan) knowledge. But that mistake is forgivable, considering that Funimation spelled the name "Akira Kurasawa" in the opening credits on the first 3 Samurai 7 DVDs.

Don't use R1 company incompetence as an excuse. The unforgivable mistake is Funimation's, in my opinion.

it is good to see stuff like this. but it's still a long way away from mainstream. i also liked the "Lead" and "Zeppelin" categories in the first round.
and the anime category was the last one answered

I'm gonna bet the MD guy's been to Otakon. Anyway, what surprises me more than an anime category on Jeopardy is anyone who'd maintain a site for the show which would be so frequently updated on a regular basis.

Actually, nobody even rang in on the $2,000 Princess Mononoke clue.

Didn't really surprise me. "We Have Met the Anime" is just one of several dozen Jeopardy! categories that have always made me antsy, hoping not only to see just one or two clues, but to go through all five; I felt somewhat relieved there was ample time to complete the category.
What would have been REALLY interesting, though, would have been seeing a Daily Double in "We Have Met the Anime" rather than "2007 News" and a moderately easy clue about the iPhone.
