Nice, a diverse cast!
So far, none of the recent Amazon Prime dubs for recent shows have been AI dubbed, at least so far.

It’s a union, non-AI dub and it sounds pretty good. People would take that over some half assed AI dub 10 times out of 10.

The Latin American Spanish dub was very well made as well, it was dubbed in Mexico City at Artworks Studios, which was kind of a surprise since they mainly work with Cruchyroll, though they're sort of an independent studio. They made a great job in 2021 with Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood re-dub, where they managed to bring back Ed and Al's original VAs. in regards to some the characters:
- Amate is voiced by Valeria Mejía, known for voicing Suika in Dr. Stone and Iroha Tamaki in Magia Record: Madoka Magica;
- Nyaan is voiced by Melissa Hernández, who voiced Carol Olston in Tomo-chan, Yaeka Sakuragi in The Yazkuza's Guide to Babysitting, Nina Tucker in FMAB's re-dub and Hinata & Hikage in Fire Force;
- Shuji is credited to be voiced by Iván García, who voced Recca Hanabishi in Flame of Recca and Pierre in Sugar Sugar Rune (yeah, they're old anime, but they were actually dubbed last year);
- Challia Bull is voiced by Enrique Cervantes, better know for voicing Mojo Jojo in The Powerpuff Girls and its anime version, as well as Ryoji Kaji in Evangelion's original dub and Junpei Ryuzojiin Those Who Hunt Elves;
I wonder who will dub Char Aznable, the only UC Gundam work that have received Neutral Spanish dubs are only the Hathaway movie and Requiem for a Vengeance.

I think Amazon only mentioned they were toying with the idea of using AI dubs only for very old shows and movies into languages other than English. Not to mention that it seems that GQuuuuuuX's dub was actually produced by IMAGICA Entertainment and Bandai-Namco themselves, Amazon only handles the distribution.

That's what I meant, since some where in uproar when Amazon only said for old shows and not recent ones.
Other than that, that's good to hear about the LatAm dub!

1. Why is the creep Chris Niosi getting work as the script adapter?

Honestly this is all very disappointing. |
Because most people probably don't know, let alone care about random staff on a show? I don't know anyone who is going to go trawling through staff credits and Googling each and every name they see just to figure out whether they have skeletons in their closet or something. I watch a fair amount of dubs, but I had zero clue what you were on about.
The first one is easy enough to find out about (I guess if you count a condensed Wikipedia entry on it as something), but I can't find anything on your second complaint. So, unless you're actively stalking/digging/following her to know that, it's not a common knowledge thing? |
It doesn’t matter whether it’s common knowledge or not, people like Chris Niosi should not be getting work. Also the stuff surrounding Niosi is actually fairly well known, just because you don’t know about it doesn’t suddenly make it okay.

Wait, what's this about there being AI dubs? The way it's spoken about, it sounds like there's at least one out there already.

Not really, it's just assumptions thrown due to one of the studios that Amazon had hired for some anime dubs that claims to specialize in AI dubbing, but the presence of cast members and some members making the knowledge known makes it unlikely it was AI dubbed.

But you're sure acting like it should be. You name-dropped both of them like they should be household names, and everyone should be intimately familiar with them and whatever drama they were embroiled in.

I don't see any major articles here on the site talking about the major drama and whatnot. I mean, there's one where it announces his replacement for a video game role with a defunct link to an apology he made, so I think you need to reassess your presumption of what is "fairly well known."
Either way, I'm not going to pretend to know anything about the crap you're taking issue with, but a further forced cursory overview of all that seems to indicate he admitted to something in the past, there was backlash, he apologized, clarified and has been trying to turn over a new leaf for himself. Good on him if that's the case. None of what transpired with him is relevant to me. But that still brings up my original point: your average viewer isn't going to know or care. So, what do I care about? That the show had a solid dub, the ADR script wasn't too far off the mark from the subs and fit a lot better in certain instances. Does that suddenly make me a horrible person? Am I suddenly "supporting" this person? No, not quite. My point is: I don't care about any of that. I care about the end product I'm paying to watch. He was obviously paid to do a job, and he's delivering so far.
If those two individuals bother you so much, then just stop watching. Problem solved.

Nothing yet confrimed in English as far as im aware for anime on Amazon. Live action is a different story and has been something that Amazon has some examples of. Their announcement of this a month or two before this show made some concerned for it, despite it being too soon.
It will be at least a little longer before I think anyone does it for anime, fortunately (though, unfortunately, someone will eventually)

I don't think it was ever explicitly stated that it would be used on anime, just that they were looking into experimenting with it for some content they have that may or may not benefit from it for lesser-known titles. I think there was a terrible knee-jerk reaction given the timing of GQuuuuuuX being acquired and that announcement coming out. Lots of clickbait sites were trying to ramp up ragebait discussions on it.

A year ago or so a couple of K-Dramas were uploaded to Prime Video and people who watched the Latin America Spanish dub noticed it sounded kind of weird and it was discovered that the voices and translation were done using AI. There was a lot of backlash and Amazon deleted that AI dub from its service, though apparently Amazon did made that dub. However, almost a month Amazon mentioned that they were toying with the idea of dubbing some old shows and movies into some languages using AI, because they think dubbing old works using real VAs isn't worth the effort.
I've also heard that BDG used AI in Magilumiere's English dub.

The important thing is that even if they didn’t break out the celebrity Rolodex they have for Invincible, the show is still being dubbed by humans.

Anyway, this dub cast is interesting to see, can't wait to see this anime.
Moderation note: Don't think of this as a warning, just cleaning up some of the off-topic digressions in the thread before it gets too bad. --F
