Metroid Dread wound up simultaneously being both one of the most exciting and one of the most half-cooked Metroid experiences for me. I like how it narratively advances Samus' story, and I really hope they continue pushing Dread's consequences harder in a future game, but.... it also left me feeling like something more conclusive was missing from Dread, and that it needed to be fleshed out a bit more+run for another few hours. I finished it feeling like it was more a game-sized trailer for their next Metroid project (story-wise). And this is keeping in mind Dread was being worked on as far back as the DS era. I feel like it should have been meatier, given how long we waited to get it. They should be quickly trying to get another one out to preserve the momentum, but I know that's not how they operate.
I'm already getting that same sort of vibe from these Metroid Prime 4 trailers. Objectively, the footage looks a bit barren, and normally I'm not one to complain about graphics but the art direction is not compensating for the fact that the environment doesn't look as good as I would hope, after how long we've been waiting to see this game. I'm hoping it's just a case of Nintendo putting together a bad trailer and the aspects of the game looking simplistic in just the first area, but I'm already getting vibes that this isn't going to hit the same heights of the original trilogy. And though minor, it having no association to the continuation of Dread's storyline doesn't help my mood either.

I've seen people claim this can't possibly be on a Switch. Those people need to play Metroid Prime Remastered because they clearly underestimate how Nintendo designers work. And they gave Samus psychic abilities because of course. Her DNA must look like a Slinky at this point

Looks exceptionally unremarkable. Either it's weak marketing and they don't know how to present the game or it's simply more of the same despite the big gap between the last entry.

If it has been that long, we would have been in WWII during the 1940s. Plus we wouldn't been born yet.

When is the switch 2 launching? I assume this game will be one of those old console but upgraded on the new hardware situations like Breath of the Wild and the Wii U to switch launch.
Story wise, feeling like a weaker Prime 2 on the trailer. Also I am not a fan of chosen one story lines. Where the character moves away from being just a badass bounty hunter and turns into "Samus"*tm. Similar to how Doom Guy changed from badass marine working his way through hell and turned into "Doom Slayer"*tm. Its takes away from the person going through interesting times and turns it into destiny. I hope that is just happenstance the Samus got chosen.
I like the wider shots of the trailer that look real nice, but like all the prime games I imagine it has plenty of plain looking upclose textures, which work quite well when pacing through the place.

Problem with this is that Metroid and Doom come from an era in which most video games tended to be light on story so the supposedly orignal characterization of these characters were largely non existent.
In Metroid’s case you wouldn’t even know that Samus’s profession is that of a bounty hunter considering she’s hardly ever shown collecting bounty’s on targets like a bounty hunter is supposed to.

They're doing a second direct on 4/2 entirely about the Switch 2 so I presume we'll find out there.

I mean Samus has been doing chosen one stuff ever since Prime 1 when all the Chozo lore had them foretelling how Samus would be the one to free/save Tallon IV.
Also I kind of agree about the Prime 2 comparison, if only because that last suit in the teaser looks like if the Light Suit just got painted red like Iron Man built it.

I think it's been revealed for a long time that when Nintendo first called her a "bounty hunter" they just thought it sounded cool without really knowing what a bounty hunter does and imagined her more like a mercenary. (Apparently Retro had an idea for Prime 3 where Samus could do actual bounty hunting missions, and Nintendo shot it down). So most of the games' plots say that the Federation is sending her somewhere, and I guess you could say that she's getting hired by them? I think the only ones she's explicitly working pro bono on are Super Metroid, Prime 1, and Other M since in all of those she's just responding to distress signals.

Interesting, I used to play the original prime 1 a lot and I do not remember that. I think there was a little bit about their hope to free the Chozo spirits. But it has been a long time since my last play through, about when I retired my Wii U I also stored the cube, so maybe 7-8 years ago. I do remember prime 2 having a bunch of spirits calling on a saviour but it was also non specific, anyone who succeeds falls into that slot.
