Marshal: It's a proto-Ninja Scroll cult classic which influenced a certain Capcom character, but unlike Ninja Scroll, work-safe.

I certainly think so. Story-wise, I'm sure there's some early 2000s nerd humor enjoyment to be had by saying it involves ninja, pirates, and cowboys but I'd consider it epic historical fiction since the hero goes on a great journey and encounters various actual real-life Japanese (and American!) historical figures.

It's one of the rare ninja anime where the majority of ninja presented are of the "shinobi" variety: all black, short swords, shuriken, caltrops type spies who use a handful of trippy illusion techniques. Usually, the ninja you see in anime venture more towards the mutated human side of things.

One thing that is a bit less debatable: there is nothing else that looks or sounds like The Dagger of Kamui, and for that alone it's worth owning it in high definition IMO. One of my favorite Rintaro films.

I'd totally agree with that. It's definitely worth seeing, and is quite deserving of a new BD transfer. The old DVD release was fine at the time, but it's pretty muddy and hard to see details in some scenes. I'm really looking forward to seeing it cleaned up.

(Incidentally, I think it was one of your AWA panels that got me to finally watch Dagger of Kamui in the first place. Pretty sure I picked up a copy in the dealer's room right after the panel. It's some years overdue, but thanks! Very Happy I got in on the KS that first day, too.)

At least that one we'll see through, vs the Dirty Pair Kickstarter, the one that made over $731,000 In Backing and has yet to see a release from Crunchyroll:

I heard about this in an e-mail. I don't know about this since it said it might not have an English dub, which is disappointing to me. As for Desslok's article on the delayed "Dirty Pair" dub, somehow I'm not surprised. I think there might still some issues left to be worked out or they'd have released this a long time ago. Unlike the article,I'm cautiously optimistic that they may release it one of these days. Heck,I've waited this long for a dubbed version of the "Dirty Pair" TV series. I can wait a little longer for it.
