Isn't the one being judged the artist not the autor?
Glad It will continue.

It's a manga adaptation of a light novel series, Nekokurage is the author of this manga in the same way a person writing a novel adaptation of a movie is the author of that adaptation.

Of course they're not considering it, your life in Japan is only over if you smoked weed or something.

Or being revealed to be a two timer and being an abusive lover. That also kills your career as well.

You can discount two timers from that list easily, cause no one remembers that people like Daisuke Namikawa or Nobuhiko Okamoto got into that and they still have successful careers, and even the infamous three-timer Sakurai still keep the roles. Laughing

But yeah, no one really had any doubt about Nekokurage still keeping the job, especially after the same case with Touno Mamare not affect publishing of Log Horizon at all.

That was mostly a jab at Rei Furuya.

Printed version of Log Horizon still suffered as they only published one volume since. On the other hand S3 of the anime came after.

To add to that; that one volume was released in 2018. That was Vol. 11. And nothing new was released since then.

As for the Web Novel, that stopped halfway into Vol. 14. Also in 2018.

And the anime's 3rd season covered Vol. 11-13. Basically catching up to the Web Novel.

Going back to the Manga for Apothecary Diaries, it seems very fortunate that it's still continuing.

If I remember right, this Tax Evasion as more of a mistake or negligence than an intentional attempt to make more money by breaking the law. So I doubt that anyone, but maybe some twitterists, cares.

I don't think this was ever really in doubt. The news on this indictment broke months ago, and the chapters have kept coming out in Big Gangan ever since.

Also worth remembering that Nekokurage isn't solely responsible for this manga anyway -- it's a two-person team. Itsuki Nanao does the scripts and panel layouts (technically called the "name", like the English word, for some obscure reason); Nekokurage does the illustrations.

So she says, but much of the prosecution's work was demonstrating that this wasn't the case. And the more details you read, details that were mentioned in earlier articles (and brought up in discussion threads here), the harder it becomes to believe her side. As far as I can tell, her only "mistake" was thinking for some dumb reason that the Tax Bureau wouldn't notice, or wouldn't bother going after her.

So I wonder why act-age stopped serialization, then. The one sentenced was the artist, not the author, right? They could always get a new artist to draw it, or maybe put the series to indefinite suspension until the artist was released.

Other way around. It was the author of act-age who was arrested not the artist.

Other way around, and that was a very different situation.

  1. Tatsuya Matsuki was arrested for a much more serious crime, sexually assaulting minors.
  2. Act-Age was an original series, not an adaptation. Matsuki was the chief creative force behind its story, unlike Nekokurage or Itsuki Nanao.
  3. It would've been legally impossible for Shueisha to sever relations with Matsuki and keep Act-Age going in any form, whether or not Shiro Usazaki was kept on board, because like most manga, it's creator-owned. The copyright is jointly held between Matsuki, Usazaki, and I believe Shueisha as well -- for another example, at the bottom of the official Oshi no Ko site, it says "©赤坂アカ・横槍メンゴ/集英社", meaning "© Aka Akasaka・Mengo Yokoyari/Shueisha". That means the only way for Shueisha to keep Matsuki from making any more money from a manga they publish is to never distribute Act-Age again as long as he lives.

It is unnecessary to attribute to evil intent anything that can be explained by simple incompetence. To me she comes across as an airhead and master procrastinator. She probably knew that she had to file but failed to do so one year and kept putting off any attempt to fix things until they caught up to her. The longer she waited the worse it got and the harder to contemplate.
