Miyuki Sawashiro as Oscar? Aya Hirano as Marie Antoinette!? What universe did I stumble into?

It's kind of surreal seeing them capture those classic Shojo designs and eyes that always get parodied with modern production values.

Actually, Udon announced Episodes, but the date has been pushed back to late October for now. Check CR.

I really hope this also leads to dub for the 70's anime.

My biggest concern is if this is only going to be one film, or at least only one film for now. They will have to cut so much.

They really kept the sparkle in the eye Laughing

...

Can Aya Hirano just be in everything like she was in 2000s?

How relieved I am to see those noble horses are not CGI-animated. Smile

No, but not because of THAT reasons people thinking about - Hirano prime job nowadays is being a stage actress, even while she still not left the voice acting and do it occasionally.

Though having her as Marie (along with Miyuki Sawashiro playing Oscar) was totally not on my bingo list.

I will watch it if it's good but so far they made it look like every other MAPPA anime when the original had such a unique style to it.

Yeah, when it comes to projects like this, I always look at the promo art, then look back to the beautiful cel drawings of the original, and it's just no contest.

So far looks like typical MAPPA (overreliance on effects completely blowing out the line work) and Sawano is probably the last composer I'd want to hear on Rose of Versailles.

Now imagine if it was Yoko Kanno on Rose of Versailles.

Honestly not sure what to think yet. It ooks good, but also a bit... much, I suppose. Visually it feels like they're a bit TOO hard to capture the look of the manga/70's anime.

Berserk trilogy 2.0. Rose of Versailles isn´t a cinematic story, it´s a TV format narrative, and the original anime absolutely did its job. Is adapting Riyoko Ikeda´s Naloen manga really that hard? Seeing the Toei film project end up at MAPPA of all studios nearly 2 decades later is really weird though.
