Honestly, I felt this show jumped the shark by the end of the last season. I kind of just stopped enjoying it, and probably won't return to it again in the future.

Fair, I noted those who wasn't fans of first season usually liked second much more. Not counting manga readers for whole Shibuya Arc is usually the most liked. |

I don't feel there was a moment of "Jumping the Shark". JJK issues are way more basic writing mistakes: complete refusal of character build up and 0 set ups, so the pay off are just stuff that happens for shock value. The setting and what happened during season 2 was perfectly fine, unfortunately it happened to functions not characters. |

I started reading the manga afterwards and it doesn't really get any better. Any semblance of character development and world building gets tossed out the window in favor of setting up the next cool fight. To be fair the fights are generally pretty awesome and I look forward to seeing them animated but it's hard not to lament the loss of potential the series once had. |

The discourse around season 2 of JJK was an interesting experience for me. I liked the first season of JJK and JJK 0 but wasn't blown away by them and when season 2 came around for the most part I felt it was just a continuation. Not exactly more of the same but an inevitable escalation of the conflict that had been simmering since the first season. Unlike some I didn't feel like season 2 was a radical departure from what had come before but a logical shift in the story as events came to a head.
Fighting was always baked into the story. That said some people may have been fooled into thinking it was a story with fighting in it rather than the fighting being the story. One Piece is an example of a story with a lot of fighting where there is a lot more going on than just the fights. Anyway my level of enjoyment for JJK never really shifted. I like it but don't love it. So when I started to see a fair bit of negativity in the reviews here and some of the discourse in the comments during season 2 it felt unduly harsh. That's just my feeling not an attempt at an objective rebuttal. At the same time I was getting completely opposite feedback from my brother during season 2. He never lavishes anything with praise. He's always ready to dish out criticism and disparagement but his highest level of praise is to call something OK. When my brother watched season one of JJK and the movie he said they were just OK. However season 2 marked a massive turnaround in his response. Every week he would ring me to ask if I'd seen the latest episode and wanted to discuss theories about the fights and what character's techniques were. He was hooked. So much so that when the season ended he started reading the manga. He rings me every week to ask if I've read the latest chapter and every time I have to say no because I'm waiting for the official release which he is too impatient for. He can talk for an hour about one 20 page chapter such is his level of investment. However being who he is if I asked him how he would rate JJK his answer would be "It's OK" or "Not bad". He's so impatient that when the mangaka has to take a break for health or other reasons he thinks they should just write the story and get someone else to draw it. |

JJK is just ok to me. The only thing I really liked was spoiler[Nanami] so I’m out.

I guess the common problem everybody has with the series is how it treats the heroes like if Akutami prefers more writing villains. For example, when season 1 premiered there was a lot of praise to Nobara and Maki's role even if their fights were mostly training. Then came the 0 movie and Maki went from a minor character to an integral part in developing Yuta while further expanding her background
...Then came season 2 and I could see James Beckett's disappointment as in one article he listed spoiler[iNobara as his favorite character in an award article andn Shibuya she is shoved right into the fridge]. Maki has it easier but it feels like Akutami didn't want draw a beautiful woman so Maki's design changed a lot. The whole fridge thing kept repeating which I can see why Shibuya 2 got a controversial 6/10 by IGN even though that site loved season 1 and the movie. The Culling Games are said to be less entertaining than Shibuya but at least it didn't result into killing almost every girl for shock value again. The final fight the manga started recently became kinda a joke considering every chapter has a formula everybody already foresees about how repetitive is the storytelling. |
