Another "Reborn as the Villainess in an Otome Game" anime series. Well, I guess I give it a try (even the motif is overused, already).

Ah yes, the series where the male lead creeps on a little girl. This is one of the two worst villainess series I read and the only one I hated enough to drop. Easy pass.

I guess it was inevitable we'd get a Villainess Fangirl who reincarnates as the Villainess and totally leans into it...not that it prevents her from getting involved in romance.

The story starts with Alicia being 7 and Duke is 12, so there's a five year difference (but it's implied they've known each other for a long time as Duke is friends with her eldest brother). I guess it's a YMMV type thing but it's not a massive age gap.

I like the manga version and I feel like Eminence is a good comparison in that she tries to say the evilest stuff but actually ends up sound rational and actually knowledgable in the country's situation, as opposed to the heroine who says naive optimistic stuff.
It's basically like
Heroine: I think we should have world peace because that'd be good
Alicia: (I'm gonna be evil and disagree with her and show how stupid her opinion is) *Says something logical and actually helpful*
It's not as wild as Eminence and drags a bit at times but it's amusing and there's some twists and turns that have been interesting.

The issue I had was how off putting it felt once they get into the academy stuff and Duke is like 17 while Alicia is still *12*. Even though she is an isekai protag with an older mental age it makes him come across as weird for being romantically interested in a preteen girl.
If they were adults the gap wouldn't matter, but even smaller gaps are huge at those ages.

Oh yeah, absolutely, it's a bit uncomfortable. For me, it's kinda not too bad because it's not like he's a 17 year old who just decided he liked a 12 year old, he had been interested in her for a long time (from memory). But I can definitely see why it would but off putting for people.
