I've been enjoying the series so far and I guess the next episode could change this, but after I finished the last episode, I wondered why this mystery wasn't wrapped up with this episode. I guess I'll see how it's handled next week, but so far it doesn't feel like this case needed to be stretched out for 3 episodes.

I don't think this show is quite my thing, but I will give it props for producing what IMO was the single most erotic scene of the season so far - that kiss towards the end. Almost straight out of Aubrey Beardsley's Salome illustration, but with color and movement too. Dazzling.

The show itself is enjoyable enough that I'll probably keep watching, but yeah, as of right now my main feeling is that this story was definitely not worth 3 episodes, it's coasting on vibe not content.

The In/Spectre link absolutely makes sense. It also explains why I'm liking this show so much. Hopefully episode 4 both provides enough narrative meat to justify this arc being extended, and advances in some degree the larger story- both things the aforementioned In/Spectre had a hard time doing, much as I love that show.

I felt the first mystery a bit lacking. I think almost everybody could have discovered the culprit quite soon, specially since you really have two real suspects. The whole "how to mess up with the time" didn't really matter.
Also, I have read a lot of detective novels and even comparing to those, Ms, Talking Head's exposition was a bit too long, But I appreciate Tsugaru's theatrics.

No mention of the post-credits rogues' gallery? I've been loving the hints in the glimpses of newspaper headlines.

Great ah ha! moment in the review with the thought that M is Moriarty.

Episode 5

So: Lupin is after a diamond stored in a silver safe protected against werewolves.

spoiler[And Aya has a plan that involves Ishikawa Goemon. Will there be a Jigen involved somehow, too?]

Also, more evidence for the M = Moriarty theory.

Though I’m still wondering if the M for Moriarty might not be a fake-out and it’ll be M for Moreau, a man who knew about making inhuman creatures.

Good point. This episode has someone referring to him as “professor”; Moreau, I think, would be “doctor”, though if the Japanese was “sensei” (I don’t know), i imagine it could be translated either way.

Also, the manga translates "Royce" as "Lloyd's" --- anime WcDonaldsism, or subtitler confused by homophones, who knows?

Moreau is certainly possible, the person I took to be Moriarty's regular henchwoman Irene Adler (red haired woman) is actually the Lesbian Vampire Camilla.

Ishikawa Goemon was supposedly caught during an assassination attempt when he knocked over a bell, alerting the guards, so maybe Aya is thinking of setting up some traps?

Well, Goemon because of the Lupin connection, of course, but, from the ending of episode six, spoiler[and the manner of Ishikawa's execution, I wonder if Aya's plan involves boiling water --- which might be why she and her team are in the tower and not down in the vault.]

The presentation of the Goemon story was great, Tsugaru is a showman after all.

I'm not sure I understand that line at the very start about spoiler[The moat being 4 feet below ground level and the sub-basement being 6 feet. Is the implication that the Sub basement would start flooding instead once the water got that high? Because the way that the vent is layed out makes it stopping seem impossible.]

Well, that went from a mostly gentlemanly rivalry to a free-for-all bloodbath rather quickly. I'm interested to see what Shizuka does in her screentime next week- she's clearly the member of the trio we know the least about, and while I don't particularly need an info dump, some more characterization would be welcome. And the 3 way brawl promises to be a good time too...and will likely gain more members.

But the most remarkable thing of the whole episode? Aya's jaw strength.

I'm very amused that, in a sea of public domain entities, Crowley alone is based on a real dude

Well, apart from Jack the Ripper, who although we don't know for sure who he was, was still a very real person.
